SUBJECT OF  THE COURSE (6 CFU)

MICROWAVE MEASUREMENT FOUNDATIONS: Description of the most important parameters of microwave circuits,
citation of the theory for the evaluation of the measurement uncertainty. Relation between S parameters and lumped elements model of microwave networks.
NETWORK ANALYZERS: Scalar and vector network analyzer structure, calibration, SOLT, TRL, direct and indirect time domain measurements, gating.
SPECTRUM ANALYZERS: Analyzer structure, spectrum analyzer parameters.
CAVITY MEASUREMENTS: cavity modes, Q factor and coupling measurements.

TIME DOMAIN REFLECTOMETRY: Theory and applications

FIELD MEASUREMENTS: Narrow band measurements.

LABORATORY
VNA description and calibration techniques;
Practical measurements on:
- 1-port: lumped element R-L-C, resonators, antennas
- 2-ports: attenuators, cables, waveguides and striplines, filters, amplifiers
- 3-ports: power splitters, circulators
- 4-ports: directional couplers
- time domain reflectometry
- electromagnetic constants of materials

- oscillator measurements
- modulated signals
